What do consider to be the Rusyn dialect? The Saris Dialect in Eastern Slovakia? If you do, then you had better go back to school and learn apples from oranges. There is no way in hell that the Saris dialect is close to standard codified Rusyn. Apparently you do not know anyone there anymore.

Tell us which Rusyn village in East Slovakia you come from, because, unless you just fell off of the turnip truck, the Rusyn Renaissance has been going on for over 10 yrs. and not only the old folk are participating. Have you heard of the folk groups, PUL'S, Sarisan, Duborva? These are all groups that frequently perforn Rusyn numbers in their repatoire.

As for former communists convincing the masses otherwise, you Slovaks have no room to talk after seeing what Vladimir Meciar did for Slovakia. I only hope that President Schuster is as good as everyone says that he is.

I do not know which linguists in Slovakia consider Rusyn to be a form of East Slovak, name a few so that we could ask them. Which universities are they from? I know a lot of people at UPJS in Kosice and Presov, and at the Presovska Univerzita, I'll give them a call and ask what they think.

I also know people that came over in 1968 that were not brainwashed by the Czechoslovak regime of the time that insist that they are Rusyn, (from the St. Lubovna area). Like I've said, if you are brainwashed for years and years (along with forced slovakization) I guess that you do consider Rusyn and Slovak the same. I do not know how, but you can, I guess.

The Greek Catholic faith was the cornerstone of the Rusyn identity, until it was ripped away from us by those who dominated us. After our nationality was taken away from us in 1948 (we were forced to call ourselves Ukrainian or Slovak, most people hated the Ukrainians hence most called themselves Slovak), then in 1950 the Greek Catholic Church was liquidated, hence killing all aspects of the Rusyn nationality and religion.

This feeble atempt did not kill the Rusyns, and all of you out there will not be able to either.

The Mad Rusyn

: : : Such people as you call "Rusyns" (who call themselves Rusnaks, which you obviously don't know) are truly Slovaks.

: : : I should know, I am one of them. It is only because of their Greek Catholic faith that they were torn from the national development of other Slovaks.

: : : You will notice how Slovaks in Ukraine are organizing and publishing. Uz~horod is a historical cultural and religious capital for Slovaks which it truly fulfilled when Podkarpatsko was part of Slovakia.

: : : In Slovakia, all respected Slovak linguists class our dialects with other east Slovakia dialects. It is former communists in Pres~ov and Medzilaborce who are trying in vain to convince people otherwise.

: : : In my native Rusnak village in east Slovakia, with population of over 2000, total number of people of Ukrainian or Ruthenian nationality is 19. Local communist party boss and his family!!

: : : In New York City area along there are thousands of us who come from Slovakia since 1968 who know we are Slovaks. We are neither Ruthenians nor Ukrainians. Communist Ukrainians have no claim on eastern Slovakia even though declaration of us as Ukrainians is first step in the master plan.

: : : Come see us at our Slovak-Rusnak festival in Newark, NJ on October 24! We will be there in our native costumes and singing our national Slovak songs (in our Rusnak dialect, of course).

: : : Maj s~a!
