: When I was in Kyjiv this summer I heard from Ukrainians that there are 3 Ukrainian schools in Russia and 38 000 Russian schools in Ukraine. This talk about discrimination of the Russian language in Ukraine reminds me of one Estonian in Tallinn who asked me if I know what Vene tänav means. I responded: The Russian street. Yes, she said and if not every street is called Vene tänav in tallinn they regard it as discrimination. but of course in Russia they know best what type of school Ukrainians in Russia want. We still have to wait for Russian politicians and administrators to grew up.
: : U.S. Department of State, Bureau of European Affairs in its "Background Notes: Russia" reports as of May, 2000: Ukrainians living in Russia - 3% of total population of 147.5 million (1997 est.)
: : They don't report how many Ukr. schools are there.
: : I heard that there are ZERO Ukrainian schools in Russia. Is it true? Can't believe!
: : I know there is one Ukr. school in Tbilisi, Georgia. Is Russia so much behind Georgia in it's democratic development?

: Why should they worry about Ukrainians in Russia, when so many Ukrainians in Ukraine prefer Russian language. At the same time Russian government insist that Ukraine is discriminating against Russian language and Russian people.Who should look into this matter,or bring this matter to international human rights commision? Guess somebody from other country has to do this for Ukraine, because Ukrainians are afraid to speak up on this matter and Russia might get mad at them. Or thats how much Ukraine- Ukrainians care or give dam about their people in other countries.
