FYI - although she was born in Kyiv, Milla Jovovich is not ethnically Ukrainian. she is half Russian and half Yugoslavian (no information available about the Yugoslav ethnicity).
If there are any other Ukrainian celebs out there, you might find them listed on Myron Hlynka's Famous Ukrainians page:
http://www2.uwindsor.ca/~hlynka/ukfam.html
That page is pretty comprehensive, but it is not fully updated, as it is missing two U.S. basketball stars from Ukraine (Slava Medvedenko of the L.S. Lakers, and Vitaly Potapenko - formerly with the Boston Celtics, now signed with the Seattle Sonics). It also lists people such as Milla Jovovich as Ukrainian without indicating their true background.
Ethnicity is not regarded the same way in Europe as it is in the United States or Canada. For example, Ukrainians born in Slovakia, do not become Slovaks by birth. Instead, they become part of the Ukrainian ethnic minority. It is no different in Ukraine. Poles or Czechs born in Ukraine remain Poles and Czechs.
Interestingly enough, in the Czech Republic, and previously in Czechoslovakia, if you were not ethnically Czech or Slovak, you didn't necessarily qualify for Czech citizenship. I knew an Iranian who was born in Czechoslovakia, but was unable to obtain a travel passport because he was not Czech, and never awarded citizenship in Czechoslovakia. I'm not sure that this is still the policy with respect to citizenship, but certainly the attitude towards ethnic minorities has not changed.
: I'm looking for a list of Ukrainian celebrities for potential guests at a fundraising event. They should be fairly well known to attract a crowd at a banquet. Available for appearance in the US.
: Entertainers, politicians, atheletes, etc.
: So far I have:
: Jack Palance
: Alex Trebek
: Milla Jovavich
: George Dzundza
: Mike Ditka
: I know I missed a lot. Please help. Any others you can add to the list?
