Only the very first Kuban Cossaks were Ukrainians (or rather people with highly mixed racial origins).
But anyway they weren't numerous and later were completely absorbed or absolutely outnumbered by Don Cossaks/Russians.
According to anthropological data Cuban Cossaks have no match (genetically close population) in Ukraine. On the other hand, Cuban Cossaks are absolutely identical to (Russian) Don Cossaks and Russians of southern Great Russia regions.
