Actually, FYI the original name of Bat'ko Sojuz (UNA) was RUSSKIJ Narodnyj Sojuz.

Much confusion was done by tsar Peter I, who adopted word Russia for Muscovite state. Words Rus'kyi, Ruskyi are derivatives from Rus' to the best of my knowledge. Maybe word Rusyn is also a derivative from Rus', it's possible. If you read Western Ukrainian writer Ivan Franko and other literary figures from the area you will notice that they use Ruskyi everywere in their writings but it doesn't mean Russian in today's meaning.

Are you saying then, that in 1914 when St. Maksym died, by "naj z'yje russkij narod" he meant "may the Ukrainian people live"? Do you think that in 1914 he did not know that Rusyny had changed their name to Ukrainian?
How do the /|EMKO BATPA people (Ob'jednannja Lemkiv) explain this? After all, their "Ukrainian Orthodox" martyr's grave is right there in their Zdynia. Have they tried (paid) to have the inscription on his tomb changed from Lemko to "proper" Ukrainian?
