: : : Barz fajno. No, moz'ete pojasnyty sztosy pro mene -- anglyckje imeno ukrajinskoj lemkivskoj organizacii Hameryky jest "Organization for the Defense of Lemko Western Ukraine." A de jest takyj "Lemko Western Ukraine"? Na Ukraini?

: : Shcho ya tobi skazhu, Vasko. Ye taka organizatsiya, yaka nazyvayet'sia "Organizatsiya Oborony Lemkivshchyny" v USA ale vony ne obmezheni Ukrainoyu v svoyiy nazvi.
: : As far as I know, Vasko, there is an "Organization for Defence of Lemkivshchyna" in USA and they are not limited to Ukraine in their name.

:
: Yes, and their motto reads, "for the unification of all Ukrainian ethnographic territory in an independent Ukraine." This is the very border-changes advocacy nonsense the Ukrainians tar the Rusyn "movement" with...

: Finally, the Ukrainians and Slovaks are waking up to the ridiculousness of each's claims on the "Rusyn-Ukrainians"/"Rusnak Slovaks": the Ukrainian Weekly feature on "Ukrainian American" Sgt. Michael Strank (from the "ethnically Ukrainian Priashiv region of eastern Slovakia") was noticed by the Slovak American press who have been trumpeting him as a "Slovak American Hero" all along. Perhaps these two superpowers should have a summit and decide whether these people are Ukrainians, Slovaks, both or neither.

: Nobody bothers to ask the people in question (e.g., Andy Warhol's family likewise) what they consider themselves. That would be too bourgeois, too anti-progressive. ;-)

: OOL/ODLWU (that's their acronym in English, you know) now even considers St. Maksym Sandovych, the first Lemko Orthodox saint, canonized by the Orthodox Church in Poland, to be a "Ukrainian Orthodox saint" even though his dying words were "Naj z`yje s'vjate pravoslavije -- naj z'yje russkij narod!"

: Nevermind.

I don't know about motto of OOL and much about other Ukrainian organizations in US because I'm relatively new immigrant, but I will tell what I know.
Ukrainian National Association (Ukrains'kyi Narodnyi Soyuz) in US was called Ruskyi Narodnyi Soyuz after it was founded more than 100 years ago. There is town in Western Ukraine called "Rava Ruska", there is street called "Rus'ka vulytsia" in Lviv. However, none of these words never meant "Russian". Russian means "Muscovite". Much confusion was done by tsar Peter I, who adopted word Russia for Muscovite state. Words Rus'kyi, Ruskyi are derivatives from Rus' to the best of my knowledge. Maybe word Rusyn is also a derivative from Rus', it's possible. If you read Western Ukrainian writer Ivan Franko and other literary figures from the area you will notice that they use Ruskyi everywere in their writings but it doesn't mean Russian in today's meaning.
