Dear Andrew, in spite your appeal addressed not to me (I am living in Kyiv), inspite I hate to ask diaspora to help Ukraine (we here must to do it by ourselves) but you quoted me and that is why I have the right to say that your idea strikes me as potentially productive. There is good infrastructure for distribution in Ukraine, popular democratic and patriotic journalists who prefere not to work but to be independent (V.Skochko, I.Pohorilova, T.Korobova, V.Ruban, V.Portnikov, S,Hrabovs'kyj etc.etc.). Such dayly or at least weekly would be good not for only citizens of Ukraine. Beeng published in Ukraine that newspaper would be good mediator between our state and diaspora. You will see very quickly the situation with freedom of speech, who are their enemies. You will have some difficulties but it is nothing in comparison with result. Good luck.
: :А я тобі скажу, що в Києві ти не купиш в ЖОДНОМУ підземному переході чи на вході в метро ЖОДНОЇ української газети чи журналу - десятки ВИКЛЮЧНО російських видань. Є ще "Kyiv Post" і російськомовний "День", але українське видання останнього ти не знайдеш.
: Let's think for a while about this serious problem in Ukraine: total lack of Ukrainian language newspapers. I don' think it is some conscious policy of Ukraine's government that you can't buy in Kyiv any newspaper in Ukrainian. It is not a secret that most of Russian language newspapers is sponsored from Russia.
: TO OUR DEAR UKRAINIAN DIASPORA: Could you please tell me, how come poor Russia can sponsor thousands of publications in Ukraine, while you, our dear Ukrainian Americans, Canadians, etc. could not publish one single Ukrainian newspaper that was interesting, popular among Ukrainians, and could be bought on every corner in Kyiv?
: It's nice to speak about the lack of patriotism among Ukrainians in Ukraine, who earn $30 a month if they are lucky enough. What did YOU do to help Ukrainian language reclaim its position as a true state language of Ukraine? Thank you for your answers.
