When I saw "nalysnyky fillings" and later "alcohol" surveys I thought this "stuff" is out of place and shouldn't be on this site. There are too many "serious" topics. However, sometimes we need to go away and relax from our "seriousness" and talk about nalysnyky, pyrohy, moonshine, pysanky and maybe girls. This is life.
I was born and rised in Ukraine in the Soviet system and now I see what western system is all about. Who had such a chance to live in both environments? Not so many.
I could suggest many topics from my experience but think they may not fit this site. For example, when I came to US without having any relatives or friends in this country, with very minimal English but with legal papers, after few months of a "new" life, I decided to call one local university professor. I saw this guy on TV programs few times back in Ukraine. One day I found his phone number and called him. This was spring of 1992. My questions were:
Question (Me): Mr. Professor, I came from Ukraine, I have a college diploma. Do you think I can use my diploma in this country?
Answer (Professor): Why are you coming here? Ukraine is independent! It's a shame!
Question (Me): Can I get any stipend or financial aid to go to college in this country in case I want to study? I know nothing about educational system here.
Answer (Professor): I didn't get any stipend when I was studying in the college, why you should get one?
[End of discussion].
These were answers of the professor who still rights books.
My suggestion for the next surveys:
1. Do you think people who have a chance to find better life abroad may leave Ukraine?
2. Did you see rats in the New York subway, Kyiv subway, Toronto subway etc.?
