: As reported by RFE/RL at http://www.rferl.org/newsline/3-cee.html:
: UKRAINE SIMPLIFIES VISA REGIME FOR MANY WESTERN COUNTRIES
: As of 1 May, the government has simplified the visa application procedure for citizens of the EU, the U.S., Canada, and Japan, the "Eastern Economist Daily" reported on 3 May. Persons from those countries can now apply for business, service, scientific, cultural, and private visas without an invitation. JM
As reported on this website last October, in fact the regulations about visa "invitations" had been eased somewhat at that time. The government had approved the issuing of visas sans invitation to anyone who could prove Ukrainian ancestry. This was a way for Ukraine to show it's respect for all those of Ukrainian heritage and former citizens.
As the above report indicates, the movement towards revising visa policy is taken a step further now. Invitations are no longer needed by anyone in the countries listed, HOWEVER, visas are still required. What that means is you won't have to scramble anymore to find invitations - all you do is pay the required fee to enter the country.
