: RE:To Zmiy Mamay from Joe.
: “Historically Karpats'ka Ukrayina formed a common state with the rest of Ukraine only for a very short period of time (for about 80 years) during the times of Kyivan Rus' (of course before it joined Ukraine in 1944).”
: >>First of all the terminology the “Karpats’ka Ukrayina” emerged in the Suncarpathian Rus after the Ist WW. This is the contribution of Ukrainian immigrants, particularly such nationalists as the scout master Leonyd Bachinskyi (the Plast scout), Ivan Pan’keyvych, Volodymyr Birchak and Vasyl’ Pachovskyi (Prosvita) from Galicia. These Ukrainian nationalists emigrated to Subcarpathian Rus in early 1920s. You do not like the imported Russian nationalism in Ukraine. Why should the Rusyns of Subcarpathian Rus like the imported Ukrainian nationalism?
Do you have any evidence of protests? And I mean the protests from people who actually lived in Zakarpattya those days.
> Second, there is no verifiable scientific evidence that the Subcarpathian Rus was a part of the Kyievan Rus. All available evidence points to the contrary of this claim.
What "available evidence" are you talking about?
: : I make several conclusions:
: : 1. Rusyns and Ukrainians are ethnicly the SAME people.
: : FAR LESS than the Russians and Ukrainians, Slovaks and Checks or Serbs and Croats are.
Did you thoroughly examine the relations of the abovementioned nations to determine the degree of relativeness?:-)
: : 2. The Ukrainian language which is very close to what we speak now existed back in the Medieval times (because Rusyn and Ukrainian are very close)
: >>The old Slavonic language was used by Slavic tribes united in the first Slavic state, Great Moravia, that was located on the current territory of Check
So you make spelling mistakes not only when trying to misspell the name of Kyiv?
> lands (Moravia), Slovakia, Hungary, including Subcarpathia, and part of Rumania.
Wrong again. The official spelling is Romania. It may have been spelled with you some 30-40 years ago, but guess what? The language is evolving, and so should your language skills.
> You are ignoring the missionary work of Cyril and Methodius who translated the Bible into the old Slavonic language and converted the Slavs of these regions into Christians in 863. This took place five generations before the Kyievan
Still struggling?
> Rus became Christian!!!
: : 3. The Rusyn issue is clearly political. It'd would be advantageous for the enemies of Ukraine to divide her into several parts (the smaller and weaker the better!)
: >>This is exactly what the Communists had been claiming about the enemies of people who, according to the communists’ paranoia, wanted to destroy the “worker’s paradise”. The end is known - they destroyed themselves!!!
No, they were destroyed by the workers whose paradise it was. Anyways, there are some issues, like Rusyn or Crimean, far more dangerous because it worries far more people than one crazy Joe from Brama's discussion board:-). These issues are clearly political, and they are brought up in order to attempt to divide Ukrainian nation even further than it already is divided. But the nation doesn't seem to care and is integrating instead of falling apart. No luck there.
: : 4. I'm proud of being Ukrainian! But sometimes I'd be happy If people call me Rusyn - my historical ethnic name!!!!!
: >>Take in consideration that there are Rusyns who feel offended when you or others call them Ukrainians,
Again, I still haven't met a single one, who would actually live in Zakarpattya and be offended when someone calls them Ukrainian. All nuts roll down to Slovakia:-)
> because they do not have sense for the Cossak’s culture, Het’man’s mentality, pathological nationalism and intolerance.
Are you not defining your position as Rusyn nationalism? Why does nationalism have negative means to you, it's only a love for one's homeland and nation. And as for "het'man's mentality", I was really wondering what that is and where did you get that from? Sounds kinda neat:-)
