Hi!
I beg your pardon but i'd like to come back to the discussion about the Rusyns! I'm Ukrainian from the Central Ukraine (from Kyivs'ka Oblast'). I've never learned any Rusyn language (some people claim that such a language exists) but when I read some pieces of the Rusyn poetry i could understand 90% of it!!!!! Isn't it surprising?! Historically Karpats'ka Ukrayina formed a common state with the rest of Ukraine only for a very short period of time (for about 80 years) during the times of Kyivan Rus' (of course before it joined Ukraine in 1944). But that poetry, as the author claimed, was not written in Ukrainian!!!!! For me it was as if I had been reading Ukrainian! My question is: How could people who almost never lived together speak almost the same language???? And please, don't argue, that Russian and Ukrainian are very close languages as well!!!! Russians that did not learn Ukrainian CANNOT understand it (at least 60% of it)!! But a Ukrainian who has never learned Rusyn CAN understand it!
I make several conclusions:
1. Rusyns and Ukrainians are ethnicly the SAME people.
2. The Ukrainian language which is very close to what we speak now existed back in the Medieval times (because Rusyn and Ukrainian are very close)
3. The Rusyn issue is clearly political. It'd would be advantageous for the enemies of Ukraine to divide her into several parts (the smaller and weaker the better!)
4. I'm proud of being Ukrainian! But sometimes I'd be happy If people call me Rusyn - my historical ethnic name!!!!!
