I've just cataloged a rather cryptic title by economists O. I. Botkin and
K. V. Pavlov. Published by the Economics Institute of the Ural Branch of
the Russian Academy of Sciences in Ekaterinburg-Izhevsk, the 190-page
volume is called Ekonomicheskoe Slavianovedenie (ISBN 5-7029-0139-8).
>From the title alone one doesn't know if this is really a monograph or a
periodical. The abstract is more forthcoming. It refers to economic
problems in the "Slavic countries of the CIS * Russia, Ukraine and Belarus
* during the period of reforms and the establishment of independence."
Looking at the contents there is almost no mention of Russia, as such, and
the bulk of the four chapters in this "collective monograph" is devoted
to the economy and foreign economic relations of Ukraine.

Published in mid 2004 far from the academinc circles of Moscow, this
edition is limited to 500 copies (average for an academic title). The
obscurity of the title, however, is yet another example of the difficulty
Russian scholars have in dealing with Ukraine and Belarus as independent
countries.
