Dear colleague,
please, excuse the anonymity of this message, and any cross postings.
In case you are interested in the practice or/and study of teaching at universities in the former Soviet bloc, you are invited to become a member of the new Facebook group:
"Post-Soviet Higher Education in the Social Sciences and Humanities"
at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=95913992412#
On this group, see: http://www.universityworldnews.com/article.php?story=20090626121424853
The group is designed as a networking opportunity and information/discussion forum for researchers, lecturers, professors and others interested in the teaching of social sciences and humanities in the countries of the former Soviet bloc.
The group is linked to the multi-volume project "Geistes- und sozialwissenschaftliche Hochschullehre in Osteuropa" (Humanities and Social Science Higher Education in Eastern Europe) published since 2005 by Peter Lang Press, Frankfurt-am-Main. See http://www.peterlang.com/index.cfm?vSiteName=SearchBooksResult.cfm&vLang=D&iValue=Stichwort&iQuickSearch=%22Hochschullehre%20in%20Osteuropa%22&iStichwort=%22Hochschullehre%20in%20Osteuropa%22&vSearchBooks=Yes&vRecordPhrase=True&CFID=27443139&CFTOKEN=10075953 as well as http://www.amazon.de/Das-Hochschulwesen-Osteuropas-deutschspr-B%C3%BCcher/lm/R1GDNZU1JWNJYP/ .
The group might be of special interest to Western and other scholars who are planning to teach, or are currently teaching, as visiting lecturers/professors, in a post-Soviet country. An Amazon Guide on this particular issue "Teach at a university of the former Soviet bloc" contains extensive literature references on higher education, social sciences and the humanities in CEE and the NIS, in general. See http://www.amazon.com/gp/richpub/syltguides/fullview/REKTGK0DL1N8F/ .
Everybody interested in these topics is invited to join and to post links, notes, questions etc.
For becoming a member, you would have to register at Facebook. Joining the group is done by clicking the respective line, in the upper right corner of the site.
Please, feel free to forward, post or publish this announcement.
With regards,
Andreas Umland
