Subject: 32nd Mid Atlantic Slavic Conference Program & Registration Info
32nd Mid-Atlantic Slavic Conference of the AAASS
Dear Colleagues,
The 32nd annual Mid-Atlantic Slavic Conference will be held on
Saturday, April 4, 2009 at The New School in New York City (See attachment
for the tentative program, which contains location and travel directions).
All persons attending the Conference, including presenters and
participants listed on the program, must register with payment. We strongly
urge registration in advance by mail by completing the form below and
sending it with a check payable to âMid-Atlantic Slavic Conferenceâ no
later than Monday, March 16th to MASC Treasurer Timothy Doyle at the
address below. Registration may also be done at the door, but because our
catering order for lunch will have already been submitted, additional
lunches for those who did not pre-register will be extremely limited.
Participants who must withdraw from the conference for any reason
should email their discussants and both me (maryetheis at mac.com) and Mr.
Doyle (tdoyle at lawrenceville.org) as soon as possible. The email addresses
of all participants will be found on the last page of the tentative program
attached to this email.
NOTE: All conference rooms at The New School will be smart classrooms
equipped with PCâs, digital projector, screen, and DVD/VHS players. If
anything else is needed, please contact Prof. Val Vinokur at
vinokurv at newschool.edu.
As in the past, graduate students presenting papers at the Conference
are eligible to win a prize of $200 for the best paper. The paper may be
revised from the version given at the Conference, and should be mailed as
hard copy to me at 503 Friendship Drive, Fleetwood, PA 19522 not later
than April 17, 2009. Papers will be reviewed by a committee drawn from the
MASC Executive Board and the winner will be our nominee for the national
AAASS award. Papers will be judged along the following guidelines: Clarity
of the main research and the response to it (20 points); importance of
research findings to the profession (20 points); amount and quality of the
support for the argument (20 points); use of primary sources if applicable
and adequate, interesting content (10 points); readiness for publication
(10 points); use of English mechanics (10 points); readability and style
(10 points).
Sincerely,
Mary Theis
Executive Secretary, MASC
