Dear Mr. Gorbach, dear Colleagues,

I do not think it is productive to send messages to the AAUS list with just an Internet link, without explanation, let alone a link to a RIA Novosti semi-misinformation release unfortunately reprinted by korrespondent.net; a quick Internet search disproves the claim, made in the Novosti story, that Mr. Burns's remarks were not covered in the US media, and even more so, the Novosti rendition of Mr. Burns's remarks is highly manipulative, highlighting one fragment and suppressing the rest. For a balanced English-language report on Mr. Burns's testimony to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, see for example:

Once again, like my fellow officers of the AAUS, I urge all posters to avoid sending messages to the AAUS list that do not directly pertain to the AAUS mission and scholarly focus, and also to avoid sending messages consisting of just a URL without comments as to why the sender believes it to be relevant to the Ukrainian Studies community.
