Thank you for the question and the interest.
I did not mean to imply that Kharkiv is peripheral. I was only pointing out its geographic location. New York City is on the edge (periphery) of the USA.
In fact, we try to obtain applications from the peripheral regions of Ukraine in general.
Our first Kharkiv oblast scholarship student now at Yale comes from the selyshche of Kupyansk Vuzlovy not far from the Russian border.
Our most successful city is Kerch on the eastern tip of Crimea.
We feel that the more people we have from the periphery the better it is for Ukraine and the program.
Unfortunately, Kharkiv has been treated as peripheral by the west. In comparison to Kyiv it has suffered from underinvestment.
