The 2008 Harvard Ukrainian Summer Institute is pleased to present a seminar lecture by Professor Roman Szporluk, "Lenin, 'Great Russia, and Ukraine." Professor Szporluk's article by that same title is set to appear in the forthcoming issue of Harvard Ukrainian Studies.

Roman Szporluk is Professor Emeritus of History at Harvard University, and the Mykhailo S. Hrushevsky Research Professor of Ukrainian History (since 2005). He specializes in modern Ukrainian history, Ukrainian-Polish and Ukrainian-Russian relations, and nationalism and Marxism in Central and Eastern Europe. He received his LLM from Maria Curie-Sklodowska University, Lublin (1955), his BLitt in the History of Political Thought from Oxford University (1961), and his Ph.D. from Stanford University (1965). A select list of Szporluk's works include: Imperium, komunizm i narody: Wybor esejow (Cracow, 2003); Imperiia ta natsii (Kyiv, 2001); Russia, Ukraine, and the Breakup of the Soviet Union (Stanford University Press, 2000); Communism and Nationalism: Karl Marx versus Friedrich List (New York and Oxford, 1991); Ukraine: A Brief History (Detroit, 1982); and The Political Thought of Thomas G. Masaryk (Boulder CO 1980).
