Dear Colleagues,
My dear mother, Klementyna Lashchyk-Szewczuk ("pani Klimtsia"), passed away
after a prolonged illness on August 5, 2008 at the age of 93. The funeral
services were held at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in
Hunter, NY and she was buried at Holy Spirit Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery in
Hamptonburgh, NY. My mother was the perennial optimist and enjoyed life
inspite of many difficulties. She will be remembered for her warmth and
hospitality as the proprietor of Carpathia House - "Karpatia" in Lexington,
NY.
The UVAN (YBAH) Ukrainian Academy of Arts and Sciences summer seminars were
held at "Karpatia." Many outstanding and distinguished Ukrainian scholars
from the United States, Canada, Europe and Ukraine lectured and
participated in these seminars. Many of you will remember the interesting
discussions shared in the ambience of "Karpatia" and the scenic Catskills.
Also visiting "Karpatia" were various groups from Plast who held their
conferences and fondly remember these events. Many other cultural events
took place there as well.
Vichna Yiy Pamiat'!
