The Ukrainian Research Institute, Harvard University is currently accepting applications for the post-doctoral position described below.


Post-Doctoral Fellow: Ukrainian Holodomor Geographic Information System Project.

Responsibilities: Works under the scholarly supervision of Harvard's Hrushevsky Chair of Ukrainian History and the administrative supervision of the Executive Director of the Ukrainian Research Institute to carry out independent research on the topic of the Holodomor (Great Famine in Ukraine from 1932 to 1933). Incumbent will be required to conduct research and data analysis, create databases for a GIS historic map of Ukraine, and georeference the relevant data creating an interactive on-line map to be used by scholars in the field. Incumbent will be required to present at least one seminar on the progress of research. This is a term research position of one year commencing July 1, 2011 and terminating on June 30, 2012.

Requirements: PhD in Slavic and East European studies, or related area; concentration in Ukrainian studies strongly preferred. Demonstrated scholarly and academic experience.  Fluency in Ukrainian, Russian and Polish. Ability to carry out independent research. Familiarity and ability to work with Geographic Information System software.
