The 20% discount is on the par (and will actually be smaller than)
with the transit costs to Germany. Thus, Yushchenko is right --
Tymoshenko lost the gas war to Russia. It would have been a reasonable
deal in market terms if indeed transit prices went to market levels as
well, but there is really no discount for Ukraine. Essentially, any
re-export is not really profitable anymore unless Ukraine subsidizes
the re-exporters with non-market transit costs, and that is the main
point.

The deal did good by removing the blockade and removing the middlemen,
but Tymoshenko just spins it as a full-blown victory.

And the gas politics is not over... A full-blown victory for Putin and Russia.
