"In 2008 a very close friend of Vladimir Putin, Silvio Berlusconi,
visited Muammar Qaddafi in Tripoli. As president of Italy, 61 years
after Italy renounced all claims to Libya, he gave Qaddafi 5 billion
euros and an apology for 30 years of Italian colonialism (1912–1943).
Perhaps Iushchenko when he visited Kyiv that year. Even if he did, it
may still be too early for Ukraine’s president to approach Russia’s
president about a similar gesture of reconciliation. But in 60 years
perhaps historians will arrive at a consensus about whether or not
Ukraine was a Russian colony."
