Pane Oryshkevich,
Thank you for your concern about a high education of Ukrainians in America. I would like to ask you for any information about scholarships for Ukrainians if they are available. I'm currently a sophomore in Del Mar community college in Corpus Christi, TX. I'm planning on transferring to the university next fall, and financial help is needed. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

: One of the reasons I created my site http://www.ukrainianscholarships.org was to make Ukrainian American organizations more accountable and to encourage if not force them to provide more scholarships.

: I think that the new generation of people arriving here have an opportunity to make Ukrainian American organizations more accountable and responsive.

: There are VERY REAL assets within the Ukrainian American community that can be realized if people are informed and thoughtful and if people are well organized. American law makes organizations perform properly.

: I personally believe that every Ukrainian American credit union should provide scholarships. Only one in America does. You can obtain full financial statistics on every credit union at www.ncua.org. You can obtain information about every not for profit organization at www.guidestar.com. The Self Reliance FCU in NYC is helping a fund drive of five million dollars to pay for a Ukrainian Center within the Eurasian oriented (former Russian Institute) at Columbia University. Ukrainian students (whether new or old immigrants) will not see that money. It will pay for the salaries of a few professors. I know and love Columbia since I am an alumnus along with several other relatives. But this is not a priority to help students.

: Application processes for Ukrainian American scholarships should be transparent and there should be specific application procedures which are objective. The winners should be published publicly. Children of officers should not be eligible.

: The UNA used to have a fair scholarship program but they now spend nearly half a million dollars a year maintaining their resort, Soyuzivka. Nothing like a resort being more important than education.

: I am willing to listen to specific complaints. In putting up my website I had trouble getting information from some organizations.

: Education is important. It is worth fighting for. The old Diaspora was too busy promoting a UKIE mentality. The new wave is paying for it.
