Please be aware of the fact that if a person who is not a permanent resident has been present unlawfully in the US more than 180 consecutive days or more than 360 days in the aggregate since 1997 and then leaves the US, s/he will face a 3-yr or a 10-yr bar to re-entry, despite the advance parole.
For persons with past unlawful presence, it's better to wait for the grant of permanent residence before leaving the US. Waivers of the 3-year and the 10-year bars are really hard to get.

: I recently married a Ukrainian woman, and we live in the US and are planning a trip to Ukraine this winter. I am a US citizen, and we have filed all the necessary paperwork for adjustment of status. My wife has advance parole.

: It is proving to be a hassle to figure out a trip, since my wife's Ukrainian passport still has her maiden name. The plan is to buy tickets to Ukraine in her maiden name, get a new passport while in Ukraine with her new name, and then fly back to US with new name. Has anyone had experience doing this? Anything we should be careful of?
