They should have no problems crossing the border. I did that two years ago with my wife. The interview went very easily...most questions were directed to me. Total 2 or 3 minutes only.
Carefull about sharing cabins with others in the train...some are smuggling cigarettes and alcohol so customs officer may search your room. Otherwise relax.
