Right now, with all of the extra security checks, it is taking much longer to process I-751's. As long as your petition is pending, you are in permanent resident status. It is not necessary to get any stamps in your passport, but if it makes you feel better, or if you are planning to travel outside of the US, you should get a stamp indicating that the I-751 is being processed.
If you submitted enough documents with your I-751, and if everything else is in order, you will most likely not be called in for any interview and will simply receive approval by mail.
It's probably a good idea to check from time to time on the INS web page that gives updates on pending applications/petitions (the main address is www.immigration.gov) to make sure that the BCIS has not sent any notices that you have not received. This is important, b/c the BCIS sometimes sends requests for additional information. If they do not get a response within the required time, the petition will be considered abandoned. Unfortunately, lately there seems to have been more notices that have not been received. This is not something to spend much time worrying about. The web site does have information about notices being sent.
If a notice requesting additional evidence has been sent to you, you should write to the BCIS, telling them that you did not receive the notice.
All letters/documents sent to the BCIS should be sent at least by certified mail, and you should keep copies of all letters/documents that you send.
Good luck.
