Don't listen to stupid messages on this board. Just take the letter and your passport to your local immigration office, and they will put a I-551 stamp (similar to the one that you had before for your GC) but with another date. Then you can work-travel.

I believe if your I-751 application is pending for more than a year they should send you a second notice, automatically prolong your GC for one additional year, and then you get yet another (the third!) I-551 stamp. If you did not get the second notice after more than a year, it's worth following up with them...
