These topics have been circulating since the first influx of immigrants from YKPAIHA after the breakup of the CCCP. At first it nostalgic. Later it progressed to standoff as old diasporans could not understand that economic reasons are the core of the new immigration. And the deterioration has gotton worse because now there is distinct animosity between some members of the two generations.

1. Ùî ºäíຠíàñ òóò â åì³´ðàö³¿ ³ ÷è ïîòð³áíî âçàãàë³ îá'ºäíþâàòèñÿ?

This is a bit of a loaded question in that to some who are located in areas of the US where integration is possible, these occurences do occur. In other areas because the numbers are so small (in particular the south or south-west
or the West Coast then the novo-prybuli ongregate and mix with other ethnic groups and/or religious organizations) For instance, New York seems to have a good possibility to exposure of old-diasporan organizations which are accessible. This includes churches, community halls, schools, and of course Credit Unions. Also this area has a great number of novo-prybuli who congregate around ghettos like the Brighton Beach enclave which give the novo-prybuli a sense that they didn't leave xCCCP at all but have all those things plus dollars to see Alla Puxachova or Oksana Bilozir when they show up.

Its quite different if you are a novo-prybulyj professional and you are located somewhere in Nebraska, Missouri, Alabama. How do you integrate??? I don't think you integrate into the YKPAIHIAH community but immediate integrate into the US and try to become a hAmerikan as quick as possible.

Then there are the those novo-prybuoli who arrived here through nefarious western religious organizations. They are located in wonderful places like Sacramento, Seattle and Portland. These are rarely professionals and their allegiance to YKPAIHA is as remote as finding a clean washroom in YKPAIHA.

2. ×è ïîòð³áíî âçàãàë³ ïðèéìàòè àêòèâíó ó÷àñòü ó áóäü ÿêèõ ñòàðèõ ãðîìàäñüêèõ
îðãàí³çàö³ÿõ?

If they are available I think some novo-prybuli do take advantage of what can keep them in contact with YKPAIHA. I know of a couple of novoprybuli professionals in the NYC area who have children and send their children to YKPAIHIAH school and also go to church. As long as it doesn't get in the way of them advancing in status ekonomikally or socially then there
is some participation. As far as being leaders that is another level of advancement which will be a challenge.

As I mentioned before there are those for who it will be hard to be active in community affairs even if they are easily accessible. I have met some YKPAIHIAH women in both the Philadelphia area and in New Jersey who came over to the USA as mailorder brides. Their husbands really don't want to do anything with the YKPAIHIAH community. Also over this 12 year period I know of YKPAIHIAH girls who were active and because they go married
with an hAmerikan they have not been seen.

3. ×è íå êðàùå ñòâîðþâàòè àáñîëþòíî íîâ³?

I would consider those sectants on the West Coast as closely creating their own organizations within their confines. This of course is with the
financial help of the religious organizations which have brought them over. But where the old diaspora has already got basic structure, such as buildings (which cost money and in particular places like NYC are expensive) then may be a bit duplicity which will not hold out against time. Some of this was already seen between the Pre-WWII immigrants and the Post WWII DP immigrants. Sooner or later because of assimilation and loss of number organizations that did exist were gone - assets sold and possible merging had taken place.

4. ßêó ðîëü â³ä³ãðàþòü Óêðà¿íñüê³ öåðêâè â æèòò³ íîâèõ åì³ãðàíò³â?

This is a question which answer could take a great deal of time and space. The native churches (Orthodox and Hreko-Katolyky) were probably expected to much more for the novo-prybuli. I think many had heard about the church in the diaspora and its role as a place of "ïðèòóëîê" but after arriving here the novoprybuli found out that it just wasn't easy to get anything out of
these places because they were really *closed*. That doesn't mean that there weren't those who took advantage. In fact many of the churches today have priests from YKPAIHA - which for the Orthodox means also his family close and
far... That is Matushka, dity etc etc. But for Mr Ivan Z. Sela who was hoping that his native church would go out of its way to help him I think brought about some disillusionment which worked its way back to YKPAIHA and further
reinforced spiritually weak individuals that the only church which gives a damn is an "hAMerikan" one! Hallejuh Brudder!
