: About Brama’s keyboard. I’ve downloaded everything as I was prompted to do so but … nothing happened.(BRAMA: Once downloaded and installed (easy to do).) The program just sits there in “unzipped” files. How do I make it work? Can it work for Windows NT 2000?
You pull the icon for the executable file (UkrKbd.exe) out to your desktop. Click on it to open, and make your selections.
I always set mine this way:
Encoding:
- Ukrainian CP 1251
Toggle keys:
- Scroll Lock
Layout:
- Phonetic
It will retain your last settings. Needless to say perhaps, but you can change those settings anytime you wish. Yes, it will work with your Windows version.
Now, how and when to use it. In Word, switch on the Ukrainian language, open your UkrKbd program, "Scroll-Lock" to turn on your new Ukrainian phonetic keyboard, and type away. The steps become second nature after a while. If you want to mix English and Ukrainian in one document, turn off the scroll-lock, and turn off the Ukrainian language in Windows. The keyboard works that way with the Windows cyrillic Times Roman and Arial fonts.
It is a little more straightforward if you install the ER fonts (CP1251 and KOI8) becasue then all you do is select the font and turn on keyboard. The toggle allows you to switch between English and Ukrainian easily wihtout having to turn off the language switch.
