Never-ever I said I denied my roots. I always was and will be Ukrainian. My kids who grew up here are fluent in Ukrainian and that's the only language I talk to them and they talk to me. I just don't feel like waving it like a banner. Remember Christ taught: "Pray behind a closed door, not on the crossroads"?
As far as citizenship goes - you might keep your Ukrainian passport as a souvenir, but the first words of the pledge you'll say in the court upon consuming American citizenship will be "I denounce any allegiance to any country and citizenship...", so in the court of law you'll be American. And you, of course, may feel inside, "in your soul", any way you wish.
And finally - what I meant by "is it worth it". I was trying to tell you that expressing your pains in public would be worth if it could change something. I hardly see it worth doing. But if it does a trick for you, if you feel better after these confessions - here it comes again -it's a free country.
And good luck!
Ihor.
