: : I extended an invitation to my wife's sister to visit us via a Student Visa and it was denied->214(b). The consulate in Kiev did this. We are now going to re-file to try and get it approved with more supporting documentation. Any helpfull hints?
: Unfortunately, this is very typical of the consulate in Kyiv. They seem to view young un-married women as a "risk" group, i.e. most likely to not return. The law puts the burden of proof on the applicant to demonstrate that they have very good reasons to return to the home country. In practical terms, it's pretty much impossible. Also, the F-1 student visa is not intended for visitation, but to go to school. The minimum requirement for this visa is to be in possession of the form I-20, issued by a receiving university/college.
: My sister has been rejected multiple times, both for the student and for the tourist visa... I'm afraid that there is a very small chance for your sister in law to obtain a visa...
As of 05/05/00...there is no longer an invitation requirement for private visa's if there is a home-stay involved...you may want to have your sister travel with a companion...for more info on visa-info..visit: www.ukremb.com... L
