Oleg,

Since you have an H1B visa, you can "temporary register" in Ukrainian consulate. I've done it, and it is very easy (besides the fact that you have to deal with morons in the consulate, but that's a separate issue). All you need is your passpost, H1B visa documents, a recent photo, and $35 money order (maybe now is it greater, I don't know). You just go to the consulate, stand in line, fill out a form that doesn't ask you about anything but your name and address, stand in line again, and the process is over. Sometimes they do request a SSN card, but I did not mention that I have it and they did not ask. They put you a stamp in your passport in 3-4 days, and you can either pick it up, or they can FedEx it back to you.

I suggest you do it now, while you don't have a GC. After you have a GC they'll require a PMZh stamp. Before GC they call it a temporary registration, so it will be good until your visa expires.

Cheers!

Julia.
