I'd say - go ahead and apply, it does not cost anything. Bring all documents you have to the nearest office, get an application form, fill it out and hand it to the officer. If something is missing - he'll tell you. If you are fine - then you are fine. In any case you've got nothing to lose if you go and you might have something to lose if you don't.
