It may be anywhere from 6 to 12+ months. Usually it takes less than a year from the time of application till you are called for an interview/ exam. I hope you are aware that there is a test involved - US history, US Government and language. After the test it takes another couple months (with me it was 3 months) until you actually go to the official ceremony (in the court) where you are sworn in and receive your certificate.
Also you can file your N400 three months before a 5-year check-point.
