: I would be very careful in using the term GC in the medical context. When I first saw the heading about GC and pregnancy, I relented. GC in medical parlance which is universally used in this context in the English language is shorthand for Gonorrhea. GC is a shortened version for gonococcus. I did not interpret it as Green Card.
: Such a connotation though totally based upon an innocent shortening by a layman can lead to mortifying embarrassment and bad vibes.
: Such misunderstandings are reasonable for the lay person. Before medical school, I thought a GI upset was a condition endemic to American soldiers who are called GIs from (General Issue). It took medical school to inform me that GI actually stands for gastrointestinal.
: Do not use an abbreviation unless you know that it is widely accepted.

about GIs, KFCs, etc.
