: First and foremost, ask yourself this question: are you ready to give up your Australian citizenship for Ukrainian one? Ukraine does not allow dual citizenship and, thus, when applying for Ukrainian citizenship you will be required to prove that you've ceased to be a foreign citizen..
Actually, whether or not Cassie would have to give up her Australian citizenship depends on the laws of Australia. If Australia permits dual citizenship, then it is possible to retain that citizenship, even when obtaining citizenship from a country that requires new citizens to give up citizenship in all other countries. For example, when one naturalizes in the US, one takes an oath, giving up allegiance to all other governments, etc. However, there are many countries which consider this "giving up" of another citizenship not to be voluntary, so those countries permit new US citizens to maintain their prior citizenship.
The US does not permit US citizens to maintain their US citizenship if they take an oath giving up that citizenship to receive another one. so, if Ukraine requires such an oath, then US citizens would lose their US citizenship upon taking the oath, as long as they understood the oath that they were taking.
