For me, it took eternity. I applied from my financial industry sponsor (a Manhattan-based firm) in March 2000. INS has processed my check, but never issued the EAC (confirmation) number. I hired another attorney, who was busy for a couple of months finding a trace of my petition. By the end of September he reported me that my case was missing (misplaced, according to him, but I don't see much difference). The time has gone, and on top of that I got in odds with our accounting department because of inability to show them my Social Security number on time.
This is my story of how the INS Office in Vermont "handles" individual cases. Right now I am about to send two letters: one - will me to my local Senator, another - to the Attorney General John Ashcroft. We see a new immigration wave beginning - the wave whose petitions will be handled by representatives of Power and Justice, rather than INS as it used to be in the past...
