Tanya, you MUST maintain your student visa status until you go for INS interview after your marriage. Only after successful interview your status will be changed (they call it adjusted!).
It takes 1 year to get an interview after your husband will apply for your permanent status. He CAN CO-SIGN affidavit of support with anyone of his parents or other relatives. Good luck!
