I completely agree with you concerning the ease of travel with a US passport vs. Ukrainian one. Just somebody suggested that it is possible to have dual (American & Ukrainian) citizenship which I have not heard of before. With such dual citizenship you would not need to get a Ukrainian visa which would be a big plus especially if you need to go to Ukraine on a short notice and don't have time to wait on the visa being processed in Ukrainian consulate (all of my side of the family is in Ukraine, so the travel issue is really big with me). However, I absolutely agree that you always run a risk of having to deal with Ukrainian stupidity which is rampant in the official / government entities.
And as to Ukrainian identity / soul - I hope that nobody uses his/her passport to define who he/she really is. You can have your ukrainian passport and yet be so-o-o "American" - if you know what I mean. A person's heritage and identity should be so much more than a country he/she holds a passport of.
Afterall, America is a land of immigrants (mostly:)
