Thank you, Anya, for your reply. Sorry to hear it took you so long to get naturallized. The problem I have now is that I got married to a US citizen in Ukraine, and we had the marriage certificate authenticated by a US Consul in Kiev, and we also have a notarized (by a Ukrainian notary) translation of the marriage certificate. Now, INS is asking for the original, and my question is does INS get to keep the original certificate for good? If so, it would be a major deal to get a new one from Ukraine. Do you know what to do in that case?
Again, thanks for the reply.

: Hi, Lena!
: My name is Anya.I live in US 10 years. Applied for citizenship 2.5 years ago. I just got a notice that my interview appointment is August 15.
: The reason for the delay is that INS lost my check
: when I initially submitted the fees with the application. After calling a few places, I was finally able to find out what the problem was, resubmitted the payment, which was $250 instead of $95 what I paid 2.5 years ago.
: You're asking how long it takes. It depends on where you reside. I live in Sacramento, CA, and
: it used to take about 2 yrs to get naturalized, now the process takes somewhere from 6 months to a year. My recommendation to you is that you have a professional who knows what he/she is doing when filing your application and submitting the paperwork. I hope your story would be better than mine. Good Luck!
: : Hi!
: : I am looking for anyone who has applied for US citizenship to share on the whole process - how long it takes, any problems with INS, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
