Hi,

I was afraid I had the same problem when I went to Ukraine this May for a visit (I have a permanent green card which I received in January, but my passport still has a valid stamp of temporary residence in the US). My understanding is that OVIR will not process your request for PMZh stamp unless you have a PERMANENT green card (for those folks who are married for less than 2 years to a US citizen at the time they apply for their green card they get a 2-year conditional green card after which you get a permanent one). One my way back from Ukraine I had no problems, although I think that the passport control officer in Barispol' had thought that I am studying at a college in the States. Most of my friends in the same situation did not have any problems leaving Ukraine. Another option is to apply for a travel document from INS, and get a visa from Ukrainian embassy (just don't tell them you are a ukrainian citizen). The only hassle is that you will have to register at OVIR like most foreigners have to do.

Hope this helps.
Lena
