This is sound advice. But finances are important here. That is what I meant to address before and now. I am hardly qualified to provide legal advice.

You have to factor expenses and not just proximity to the educational institution. You have to think out your priorities and realities before you make a decision.

Something may be legal. But it may not be practical. It may not be realistic. Many students who come to America are very wealthy so they can afford to wait for a visa change. Finances do not press them. But that is not true for most students from Ukraine.

If you are waiting for an F-1 visa you may not be able to work on campus. You certainly cannot apply for a work authorization until you get your student visa. I believe that you can only apply for work authorization by mail and only after you have been here for year. But I may be mistaken about that last fact.
