She wrote, her VISA is valid till 2006. She didn't provide info on her status, but I would guess, the year 2006 is also stated as the year of the end of her study in I-20 form (that's why her visa was issued untill 2006).
So, as long as (1) visa is valid, (2) status is valid, which can be proved by I-20 and all records are fine in SEVIS, there should be no problem.
However, I agreee, if she would not have a valid visa, getting a new visa in her situation would be hard.
