I don't think it's a good thing! This is not an amnesty program (why didn't you take advantage of that a few years back?). Even if you are selected and get an opportunity to interview, your application is likely to be rejected because of your expired visa. I do't know how to advise you about this. Maybe someone else who frequents this site can offer some solutions.
