There is a misunderstanding between you and Bohdan Oryshkevich- you haven't described your
status precisely and Bohdan tries to sell you some trivialities with a glamor of wisdom.
If you are not eligible for a social security number (for example a tourist with plain B-2 visa),
you still may open your bank account quite legally: just visit the nearest social security
office and demand a temporary taxpayers certificate. If they will inquire why do you need it,
just tell them the truth- for opening a bank account. But be aware- they will check your visa
status. So, if you've already overstayed your visa
(i.e. you are an illegal immigrant) there are still some other ways, but they are not to be
