I grew up in Sumy, Ukraine and now live in San Francisco. (That was what made me notice you comments).:-) What's your girlfriend's name, may be I know her? I am going to Sumy in august to see me family. The least problematic way for your friend to go outside Ukraine is to go to Poland or Czech repiblic (there is no visa requirement). To go to any country in Western Europe she would need a visa, and they are not always easy to get. Good luck, and let me know if I can help with anything. Tasha
