Dear Mr. Oryshkevych.
I am afraid you might have misinterpreted a part of my message. I came to the USA on J-1 visa (which definitely indicated that I was not a subject to the 2 year rule), and before deciding to become a student here, I had consulted several international counselors in the Texas universities on the legacy of the change of status in order to get the objective information. All of them explicitly stated that in my case there were no violations of the US law and that it was quite a regular practice for many international students (the change of status took place only once: from J-1 to F-1).
And I agree with you that there is nothing wrong with going back to Ukraine, since I have done it myself, when I was an exchange student here 3 years ago. My only motive for staying was that I thought it quite senseless to spend rather large sum of money on one more ticket, while I was already in the US. So, as far as I am aware I have not violated any rules, unless all the counselors I had talked to mislead me, which I don’t see exactly as my fault. And this was partly the reason I wrote this message: maybe somebody had similar situation and could share his/her experience. That’s why I really appreciate your opinion and the time and effort you have spent in replying to my message.
