Are you crazy? You NEVER take a laptop with you to Ukraine if you are a Ukrainian citizen. You absolutely HAVE to declare it and more so--you must pay MYTO on it (tax) which is arbitrarily estimated by a customs officer and can amount to more than your old laptop is worth.

I crossed the Ukrainian border from the US with my laptop in 2001 (I doubt that much has changed), and boy did I get in trouble! I ended up just leaving it at the customs ("na zberihannia" 10 hryvnya a day fine) and my US citizen friend took it to the UK with him on a business trip and brought it back and they didn't bother him at the customs so that's how I got it back.

NEVER try to do that if you are a Ukr. cit. -- give it to US citizens to cross the border
