And there is no hardship or low standard of living in Ukraine. If you got skills and are willing to work hard, you can do many things, just the same as here. Especially for a US educated individual. OK, I know that nobody wants to go back for 2 years, it sounds like a horrible thing and so long, but in fact time flies so fast, you do not even notice. You live a good life in Kyiv and have a great job, and your green card is in your pocket anyway. This poor girl is just kidding herself, and she must have overstayed her J-1 visa by now, creating problems for herself.
What is extreme hardship, anyway? When your US husband is bed-ridden and must be fed through a tube? I do not believe this is the case.
My advice is that instead of fighting this impossible battle and waisting ton of time an dmoney, just go back, and the sooner you go, the sooner you'll be back. Of course this advice is for those who are married to US citizens. Other cases are different. I do not know what people are hoping for. OK, maybe one out of a 100 can get lucky, but I do not imagine they give out waivers left and right.
