I want to answer your question. My secret is very simple--I went back to Ukraine for two years as it was required and then applied for permanent residence from Ukraine as a wife of an American citizen. My husband stayed here in the states and visited me once in a few months.
I do not know any other (easier) way of getting rid of this J-1 status. Of course, you can keep fighting the system but you would waste years and years of your life not being able to work, being an illegal alien, sitting here doing nothing and not knowing when and how it's gonna end.
Again, good luck to all of those who are trying. I am still to hear from ONE person who got a waiver and became an LPR. This naive girl states that she has 90% chance of winning the case--yeah, right. If anybody here became an LPR after J-1 without leaving the states--please show me one person. Until then I would say--it's close to impossible.
