A fiancee visa petition is filed by a US citizen to bring a fiancee to the US from another country, so that the couple can marry in the US. If the fiancee is in the US, it makes no sense to file a fiancee visa petition.

: My fiancee and I have been engaged for a time now and we are ready to become married. She is here on F1 status student visa. We talked to some couples experienced in the area and they agreed that fiancee visa was defintely the way to go for us, but I've been told that you have to go to Kiev now to file for that petition. I did, however, read on a US site on immigration that visa holders could petition to change the status of their visas while remaining in the US. Our fear is that my fiancee will travel back to Ukraine, have the fiancee visa denied or delayed, and it will cause interruptions in her school work.
